The transmission in 1986 thru 1999 Softails is mounted to the frame with 4 studs on a mounting plate and on the right side with the 5th stud straight onto a bracket that is welded to the frame. It is common practice to offset the transmission to create space for a wider rear tire, using an offset mounting plate. The offset mounting plate however does not take care of the 5th stud, often resulting in a cracked inner primary. Installation of our «Fifth Brace» overcomes this problem. Installation is sin rodeos. All bolts, nuts, spacers, washers and a comprehensive instruction is included. All you have to do is drill a 3/8″ hole in the vertical part of the bracket on your frame, put «The Fifth Brace» on it and then bolt that bracket straight onto the trapdoor.
